DISTANCE LEARNING FAQ

HOW MANY DAYS PER WEEK DOES MY STUDENT "GO" TO SCHOOL DURING DISTANCE LEARNING?

The number of days that students “go” to school has not changed during Distance Learning. STUDENTS ARE EXPECTED TO BE ENGAGED IN CLASS AND/OR SCHOOLWORK M-F DURING SCHOOL HOURS DEPENDING ON THEIR CLASS SCHEDULE.

Students will engage in daily live interaction five days a week via Zoom.

Students are expected to log in to Canvas daily (M-F) during school hours (depending on their class schedule) and check for assignments/work, feedback, and instructions.

Students are encouraged to connect with teachers during Office Hours for additional help/support.

DO YOU MONITOR STUDENT ATTENDANCE DURING DISTANCE LEARNING?

YES. Our regular attendance policy is in effect during Distance Learning. Students that do not attend required Zoom class meetings will receive an “A” for class attendance (absent.) Absences can be cleared by a parent/guardian through our Attendance Office. Please see Attendance Policy for more details.

WHY DOES MY STUDENT HAVE A "U" IN THEIR AERIES ATTENDANCE WHEN I SEE THAT THEY ARE LOGGED ON TO THEIR ZOOM CLASS MEETINGS?

A “U” in Aeries Attendance means that the student is UN-ENGAGED and has not been PARTICIPATING in Zoom class meetings (not just logged in) and/or student HAS NOT COMPLETED/TURNED IN ASSIGNMENTS/CLASSWORK.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN AN "A" AND A "U" IN ATTENDANCE DURING DISTANGE LEARNING?

“A” refers to an absence. The student did not attend the assigned Zoom class meeting.

“U” refers to a lack of student engagement (or un-engagement). The student may have attended Zoom class meeting(s) but has not participated in class and/or turned in any classwork/assignments.
