DISTANCE LEARNING SCHEDULE FAQ
HOW MANY DAYS PER WEEK DOES MY STUDENT ATTEND SCHOOL DURING DISTANCE LEARNING?
The number of days that students attend school per week has not changed during Distance Learning. Students are expected to be engaged in class and/or schoolwork M-F during school hours depending on their class schedule.
Students will engage in daily live interaction five days a week (M-F) via Zoom.
Students are expected to log in to Canvas daily (M-F) during school hours depending on their class schedule and check for assignments/work, feedback, and instructions.
Students are encouraged to connect with teachers during Office Hours for additional help/support.
WHO DO I CONTACT IF MY STUDENT IS HAVING TROUBLE IN A CLASS?
Students/parents should first reach out to the teacher regarding class issues and/or concerns. Most issues/concerns can be solved by going directly to the source (teacher). If your issue/concern cannot be resolved by the teacher, please reach out to your student’s school counselor. School counselors are available via email, telephone or virtual meeting.
STEP 1: Email* teacher with issue/concern. If the issue/concern cannot be solved at this level proceed to next step. Click here for RHS staff directory.
STEP 2: Forward original email* to school counselor with a brief description of interaction with teacher and information on how you would prefer to communicate regarding this issue/concern (email, telephone, or virtual meeting.) Click here to contact your counselor.
*email is preferred during Distance Learning.
DO YOU MONITOR STUDENT ATTENDANCE DURING DISTANCE LEARNING?
Yes. Our regular attendance policy is in effect during Distance Learning. Students that do not attend required Zoom class meetings will receive an “A” for class attendance (absent.) Absences can be cleared by a parent/guardian through our Attendance Office. Please see our Attendance Policy for more details.
“A” refers to an absence. The student did not attend the assigned Zoom class meeting.
"C" refers to a cut. The student's absence has not been cleared and has, therefore, become a cut. After 2 school days, an absence that has not been cleared will turn to a cut and remain unexcused per the California Ed Code.
“U” refers to a lack of student engagement (or un-engagement). The student may have attended Zoom class meeting(s) but has not participated in class and/or turned in classwork/assignments.
WHY DOES MY STUDENT HAVE A "U" IN THEIR AERIES ATTENDANCE WHEN I SEE THAT THEY ARE LOGGED IN TO THEIR CLASS ZOOM MEETINGS?
A “U” in Aeries Attendance means that the student is UN-ENGAGED and has not been PARTICIPATING in Zoom class meetings (not just logged in) and/or the student HAS NOT COMPLETED/TURNED IN ASSIGNMENTS/CLASSWORK.
